Vehicle Interference/Damage Wallace Green Way Walkern

Dear Resident

At 2am on Sunday 12th July a vehicle was entered by an unknown male on Wallace Green Way in Walkern.

A vehicle which was parked on a driveway in Wallace Green Way was entered by an unknown male wearing dark clothing and a rucksack. An untidy search was carried out with the contents of the glove compartment strewn over the inside of the car. Police were called and promptly attended the area. Unfortunately after an area search the offender had left in an unknown direction.

An offender matching this description has been active in several locations in East Herts over the last few weeks. He wanders around in the early hours of the morning trying car door handles. Many are unlocked so he takes the opportunity to search through them. He has been very successful as money and valuable items are routinely being taken. He has been captured on CCTV, always wearing dark clothing and a balaclava. Please remove items from your vehicle and make sure that it is locked.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
