A shoplifter has been jailed for nine months after breaching a court order and other criminal offences. Matthew Gladwish, aged 45 and of no fixed abode, had been given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from entering Borehamwood and giving further penalty if caught shoplifting again. At a Hatfield Magistrates’ Court hearing though he admitted three shoplifting offences and four breaches of the CBO. He also pleaded guilty to possession of a class B drug (cannabis), obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty and assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty. He was also serving a previous suspended sentence. Magistrates jailed him for 38 weeks on 25 March. CBOs are given to serious and persistent offenders involved in anti-social behaviour or criminal activity. Breaching a CBO is a further criminal offence. Sergeant Andrew Amabilino, from the Borehamwood and Elstree Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “CBOs are put in place for good reason. They are there to protect the community and prevent further harm. When someone is subject to a CBO, the expectations are clear, and if those conditions are breached, we will take firm and appropriate action.” | ||
