Theft of Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

We are investigating a theft of a Grey Audi Estate that occurred on the 24/04/2026 at 5:20am near to the junction of York Road. If you have any CCTV of any person or vehicle acting suspiciously in the area please can you send me an email. The car made off towards Hatfield Road and then onto Stanhope Road.

We have seen good results of cars being found post theft via small trackers being hidden in the car such as airtags. Also using a steering wheel lock is a good deterrent to prevent cars being stolen. We have seen in some recent instances that faraday bags haven't necessarily stopped a keys signal from being copied.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
