More than 800 motorists stopped in Christmas crackdown on drink and drug driving |

Good afternoon,
More than 800 motorists were stopped in Hertfordshire throughout December for Operation Limit, the national crackdown on drink and drug driving during the festive period. The Road Policing Unit stopped 856 people over the course of the month, with 382 breath tests and 56 drug wipes conducted, as part of the annual campaign targeting motorists who choose to get behind the steering wheel whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 69 people were subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through alcohol or drugs. Road Policing Unit Chief Inspector Garry Webb said: “Our officers were out in force across Beds, Cambs and Herts to ensure people were abiding to the laws of the road and not drinking and/or taking drugs and driving. As well as proactive patrols and acting on reports and intelligence, officers conducted stop site operations across the county. “Unfortunately, some people still continue to break the law which is unacceptable behaviour. We do thank those who celebrated safely and planned ahead by either booking taxis or nominating a designated driver. “We want to stress that this is something we look out for all year round – not just during the festive season. So, our advice continues to be, always avoid alcohol or taking drugs if you are driving. Alcohol impairs your judgement and makes reactions slower, which significantly increases the chance of being involved in a collision.” | ||
