Theft from Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

 

On 25th July Between 14:30 and 20:10 a theft from a vehicle occurred in Dudswell Lane 

 

Victim reporting that when he has approached his vehicle he has noticed that both front and back index plates have been removed.

The vehicle is a grey Toyota RAV4.

Victim says that the vehicle was parked on Norcott Hill in Berkhamsted between 1430 and 1530 but he has only realised the plates have been taken at 2000 at his home address so could have happened in either location.

The screws have been taken out and only one remains in the vehicle, the rest are just empty holes where the screws would have been.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox. 
  • Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
  • Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
