||
A man has pleaded guilty to an attempted burglary in East Herts, after officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at an address. At around 10.30pm on Thursday (3 July), a call was made to the police control room stating that a potential burglary was in progress at an address in Wareside. Officers from the Intervention response and Neighbourhood Policing teams quickly attended and contained the area. A vehicle was located in a nearby layby, with a man sitting inside. He was detained and searched, before being arrested in connection with the incident. The investigation was picked up by the constabulary’s Specialist Investigation Team (SIT), supported by detectives from the East Herts Local Crime Unit (LCU), resulting in charges being authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) the following day. Dionis Mikeli, aged 27, of no fixed address, was charged with attempted burglary of a dwelling and going equipped to burgle. He was refused bail and appeared before Hatfield Remand Court on Saturday (5 July). He pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded into custody ahead of a sentencing hearing at St Albans Crown Court on Friday 1 August. Investigating officer Detective Constable Tilly Andrews, from SIT, said: “This is a great example of how quick reporting of suspicious activity can lead to positive results. Thanks to the quick work of all the teams involved, we managed to make an arrest, secure charges and get a guilty plea at court.” She continued: “We know that burglary offences cause a great deal of concern among local communities and we continue to investigate, to bring offenders to justice.” | ||
