Man charged after knife seized - Hatfield

A man has been charged after police were called to reports of a man seen with a knife in Hatfield.

At around 8pm on Tuesday 6 May, officers were called to a report of a man allegedly seen with a knife in Aldykes.

Officers attended the scene but the man had made off. They found him a short while later at Hatfield train station where he was arrested.

A search in custody uncovered a lock knife (pictured).

Tyler Knowles, aged 18, of Vencourt Place in London, was charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

Inspector Amy Sheldon, from the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This was a great team effort by officers on the neighbourhood policing team and our Intervention* colleagues.

“This arrest highlights the danger that officers face in order to keep the public safe. We want to stamp out knife crime and officers will selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to do so. Just as the public may worry about knife crime, so do our officers’ loved ones.

“We can all work together to tackle knife crime though. If you have suspicions that someone is carrying a knife, please do not hesitate to report it. If you do not wish to speak with police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers who will make sure you stay anonymous.

“Next week, we’ll be participating in the national knife crime campaign Sceptre. There will be a knife bin at Hatfield Police Station for people to safely and anonymously dispose of knives. During the Sceptre campaign in November 2024, 26 were disposed in the bin and I encourage people to take up this opportunity again.”

You can report information about knives online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.

In an emergency, always call 999.
